Having experienced poetry’s wondrous power to heal,  Mehret sought to share the gift of poetry with others by starting Fresh Poems in 2010. Little did she know the adventures that would ensue.   

Mehret penned poems in coffee shops, airplanes and  busy street intersections.    New York, Wheaton, Elmhurst, Addis Ababa, Philadelphia, Wicker Park, the Gold Coast...all  became locales that hosted  the healing and connecting wonder of poetry. 

Fun Facts: 
Mehret came to Wheaton as an Ethiopian/Eritrean refugee at the age of five.  She now resides in Wheaton and teaches English Learners at Franklin Middle school. She can’t resist French Vanilla Ice cream and loves growing her yoga practice at Essencia Yoga Studio
